MongoDB DBA

Position Overview

We are seeking a MongoDB DBA to support a migration to MongoDB Atlas within the Data Platform Engineering team at a Fortune 50 healthcare organization. This team owns and supports enterprise data platforms while enabling internal application and engineering teams to leverage these technologies.

The primary focus of this role will be providing hands-on MongoDB database administration and technical support throughout the migration to MongoDB Atlas. The DBA will work closely with internal application and engineering teams to help prepare environments, execute migration activities, validate data, troubleshoot issues, and ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption.

This role combines migration support with ongoing database operations, so the ideal candidate has strong MongoDB DBA experience, familiarity with MongoDB Atlas, and experience supporting enterprise database migrations.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the migration of existing MongoDB environments to MongoDB Atlas.
• Assist with migration planning, environment readiness, database configuration, data migration, cutover, and post-migration validation.
• Perform data integrity checks and troubleshoot migration-related issues.
• Support MongoDB database administration across production and non-production environments.
• Monitor database performance and availability and assist with query optimization and index management.
• Support backup and recovery, replication, access management, and database security.
• Partner with application and engineering teams to validate connectivity and ensure applications function properly following migration.
• Troubleshoot database performance, connectivity, and availability issues during and after migration.
• Document migration procedures, configurations, and operational processes.
• Support ongoing database operations and help ensure the reliability, performance, and stability of MongoDB Atlas environments.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on MongoDB database administration experience.
• Experience supporting MongoDB migrations, ideally involving migration to MongoDB Atlas.
• Strong knowledge of MongoDB database administration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with database performance monitoring, query optimization, and indexing.
• Understanding of replication, high availability, backup and recovery, and database security.
• Experience supporting production database environments.
• Ability to collaborate with application, infrastructure, and engineering teams throughout migration and validation activities.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience migrating self-managed MongoDB environments to MongoDB Atlas.
• Familiarity with MongoDB migration tools and approaches.
• Experience supporting enterprise applications and complex database environments.
• Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries.
